Volunteers are crucial to the work we do.

Without their generosity in donating their time and expertise, we would not be able to give the adults in later life of Norwich the opportunity to live healthy and active lives, and improve their quality of later life.

Why Volunteer? Volunteering is good for you. It makes you feel good. And if you feel good, you pass on your positive energy to those you are helping.  Volunteering with us gives you the chance to:

  • Learn new skills and enhance your CV
  • Share your knowledge
  • Stay active and involved
  • Socialise and make new friends
  • Meet people and learn from their life experience
  • Above all, make a difference to people’s lives and your community

Who can volunteer? Almost anyone can be a volunteer. Most of our roles are for those 18 and over and we have a wide range of volunteering roles which suit different people and different skills. All of our volunteer roles are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and we do ask for two references before you can start volunteering for us.

How much time do I need to give? No matter what your time commitment, interest or skills, we will have a role which would benefit from your support. Each role will say how much time is involved and we can be flexible and work around you and your committments.

How do I find out more? All our current roles are listed below.

If you would like to discuss volunteering with us, please get in touch via our Volunteering email, volunteering@ageuknorwich.org.uk

Liaison Officer for Volunteers

The central purpose of this role is to cultivate a thriving and well-supported volunteer network that maximises the invaluable contribution of volunteers across all of Age UK Norwich’s services and activities. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our 70+ volunteers feel confident, valued, and enjoy their experience, which is critical to our ability to effectively support older people and their families in Norwich.

Your key responsibilities could include:

  • Streamlining Volunteer Recruitment Administration: You will be instrumental in the smooth and efficient administrative processes of volunteer recruitment. This includes arranging interviews, diligently managing reference checks, and overseeing the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) application process.

  • Providing Ongoing Volunteer Support and Engagement: A significant aspect of this role involves conducting regular peer reviews and catch-ups with volunteers across various teams, whether in person, by phone, or via online platforms. These interactions will ensure volunteers feel heard, supported, and connected within the organisation.

While this role does not involve the day-to-day supervision of volunteers as they carry out their specific tasks, you will be responsible for pro-actively engaging with volunteers to ensure they have the necessary support and resources to excel in their roles. This includes facilitating regular check-ins and maintaining essential records related to volunteer engagement and support.

Ultimately, your efforts in this role will directly contribute to the positive experience of our volunteers, ensuring they feel empowered and appreciated, which in turn strengthens Age UK Norwich’s capacity to make a real difference in the lives of older people in our community.
